Why did I get a check from HSBC when I requested direct deposit?

I filed my taxes, on time, with H & R block. I filed electronically and did the paperwork to get it directly deposited into my account. Now I just got a check in the mail which says “EXCESS REFUND… payment for your excess income tax on RAL or RAC check program.”

Am I still getting a direct deposit or is this my entire refund?

  1. you clearly states that it is Excess Refund “payment for your excess income tax on RAL or RAC check program.” Apparently you are not aware that your refund was RAL or RAC, so then H R Block has your refund. H R Block had your refund direct deposited into their account and you signed the tax return and accepted.
Contact IRS at 1-800-829-1954 to find out where you refund was sent to or when it was issued.

  2. The same thing happend to me (I think b/c my bank is one of those affected by Obama’s bank bailout/merger things) the check I received was the refund, so it may not be the same as your situation. I would call the nearest IRS office stat and ask them about the term “excess refund”. It sounds as if it’s in addition to the refund you filed for.
