  1. Go for a mediclaim policy for yourself & family from one of the PSUs like The New India Assurance co / Oriental Insurance Co / United India Insurance Co / National Insurance Co.

The service might not be the best. But claim settlements are far better.

Private players charge much less when you are young and charge almost double the premium as you get older.

It will be difficult to switch to a PSU later in life.

This is from my own experience.

  4. I think in india only government company is the best as per 90% people but they don’t know at present most of private company give many facility in health care insurance like Bajaj is the best and another company are HDFC, ICICI etc.

  5. I would advice that you take Apollo Munich health insurance cover. it may not be the cheapest but seems by far the best. Important factors that you should look at are the capping on Pre Existing Disease – PED ( generally a waiting period of 3 – 4 years), Room Rent eligibility ( more the better), exclusions. Most will not cover PED from Day 1, and will have waiting periods on some common surgical ailments like Hernia, Cataract, Piles etc. Also , to top it , recommend that you take a Super Top up insurance from United India Insurance and also take a Personal Accident Cover for your family.
