3 Replies to “Whats better and why, National Saving Certificate (NSC) or Peoples Provident Fund (PPF) ?”

  1. NSC is a on time deposit which gives you tax benefits

PPF is a recurring deposit which also given you tax benefits.

If you have lump sum money then go for NSC, but if you want to have a planned monthly investment then PPF is your option.

  2. How does one compare NSC with PPF?

NSC is a 6 year close ended fixed deposit scheme @ 8%. Interest is taxable.

PPF is a 15 year close ended recurring deposit scheme @ 8%. Interest is taxfree. Partial withdrawal from 7th year allowed.

    PPF is defenitely better.
