What is the procedure of opening a bank account in India?

I am from Nepal and just arrived India. I have rented a flat and made house rent agreement. I am studying in an institute in Delhi. Is this all enough for opening an account in any of the banks in India?

  1. Collect your college admission proof that you are studying in a college in India and have copies of your passport size photos.
Go to a bank near by and ask for assistance.

  2. Take somebody who has an account with that bank to introduce you to the bank. also carry a few photographs, your address and identity proof. That should suffice. you can open an account.

  3. Provide the bank representative your photo identification, and tell him your personal information, such as full name, address, phone number or e-mail address and whether you are a resident or citizen of India.

Give the bank representative your deposit. You also can request an international ATM card that is valid outside of India, but there may be a monthly fee.

Receive your passbook and temporary password to access State Bank of India accounts online. You should receive your ATM card and further account information in the mail within 10 to 20 business days.
