Need info: Is it mandatory for a company to deduct tax for the salaried employees?



I am working in a startup company, My question is, Is it mandatory for a company to deduct tax on my income or can I submit my income tax returns myself?. My company says Only they should collect and pay tax on my behalf and there is no other way around , Is it true?

  1. Very true; they (the employers) are compelled to deduct tax and pay it at source to Government EVERY month. Non deduction and payment to Government invites penalties for the employers. There is no other way around. Give all your savings data to your employer and reduce the tax deduction incidence.


  2. yes , As far income from salary is concerned yes your employer is liable to deduct and deposit tax on your behalf .However you may deposit tax on other income except salary .
