Is it mandatory to pay Maitainance to the Bldg’s Co-operative Society even if it is never occupied for years?

I have a flat in Mumbai which has been occupied or rented out. Is it therefore necessary to pay the Maintenance Charges to the Co-Operative Society which has been formed recently.

I can understand, property tax can be mandatory. But, if I do not pay Maintainance charge – can the socity take legal action?

  1. You have to pay Maintainance charge to the society even if you do not reside in the flat.

If you rent out the flat you have to pay non-occupancy charges in addition.

The socity can take legal action.

A person staying on the ground floor has to contribute equally for the maitenance of the lift even if he is not using it. This is additional information.
