In what section of ITR1 would you report EPF withdrawal amount received after more than 5 years of service?

As per my understanding of Income Tax Rules, EPF withdrawals after 5 years of continued service with an employer are exempt from Income Tax. So in what section of the Income Tax form do you report the amount received.

  1. I don’t think there’s any space to mention EPF withdrawal. Moreover as this is tax free so it doesn’t matter also. You just need to do the computation accordingly and keep the required documents with you tto show this amount as withdrawal from PF.

  2. interest on EPF is tax free, and
EPF contributions are treated as salary every month, and at the end of the year employer calculates salary including employer contributions as salary so, it was once tax treated and again you could not treat the amount as additional income, and the withdrawl won’t comes under taxable salary again so, that the iT sleuths won’t consider as extra income and undergo with tax liability.

  3. You understanding is correct. EPF withdrawals after 5 years of continued service is exempted. However you need to show it under exempted income in ITR – 1. See point no 26 “Exempted Income” of ITR – 1. You have include that income under there.

This head is just above “Verification” Heading.
