a) Will I be liable to pay income tax on my short term gains in shares even if my total income remains below taxable limits.
b) must I file IT returns.

  1. Answer for both a) & b) is No. However few people prefer to file nil IT return. In some cases TDS is deducted but income remain below limit – income tax refund may be claimed.
