  1. Checks are usually processed within a day, over-night on week days, unless it’s the weekends or holidays.

Has your friend received the payment? If so, it’s probably a banking error. Bank usually catch these things. But they probably can, and will, charge your account if they find out.

  2. It shouldn’t take more than a few days for such a routine transaction. It’s unusual for cheque processing to take more than a week even if your bank is in one city/state/country than the other person.

If I’m not mistaken, personal checks expire after one year so technically, they have some time to cash it but the problem is you don’t want it cashed when you don’t have enough money in your account. This is just my opinion of course but you can always contact your bank and ask what’s up.

  3. Well either your friend lied and didn’t do anything with it. It came out and you didn’t notice it. Either her bank or your lost it. Or the check bounced so the funds you had never left your account.

Remember if it is a bank error then they may catch it sooner or later. However if it is after 6 months then the check has become officially dead. So just wait 2 more months and then you are in the clear.
