  1. foreign banks are those who are incorporated outside India while private banks are those whose shareholding is widespread with public unlike public sector banks in which Govt hold more than 51%.Example of Private banks are ICICI bak HDFC Bank,Kotak,Cenurion bank etc while major foreign banks are HSBC,Citi bank,Axis bank,ING vysya Barclays,Standar Chartered.Services of private banks as well as foreign banks are good basicallyforeign banks are fair weather friend and they will run after y7ou when you are doing well but once you are in difficulty they will withdraw themselves. in this respect private banks are better. apart from this operationally there is not much difference between the two.
