Can we transfer money ( sale of property in Bangalore) from India to United States?



We have a couple of properties in Bangalore which we plan to sell when we relocate to the United States.Can we Transfer the money got from selling these property to our bank accounts in the U.S
Do we need to reinvest in property in Bangalore once we relocate to U.S?Is there any penalty if we do not reinvest the money in Bangalore?

  1. When you earn income by selling any property, you must pay the TAX.
    That’s it, that is your liability. And if you need any concession on the tax, either you must buy another property or invest in shares, banks etc.
    If you have decided to leave the country, I don’t think there is any point in investing in INDIA.


  2. once you pay the capital gains tax to Indian govt, you are at liberty to transfer the funds to your US account legally.


  3. Yes. The RBI now allows Indian Nationals (Individuals) to transfer upto $100,000 per calendar year to overseas destinations.

    Make sure that you have paid your dues in taxes. Additionally, you may need to obtain a ‘no dues’ letter/certificate from the Tax Department before you depart for the US. Please check in to it.
