  1. You have plentiful choices to open and maintain a bank account in India. Being a student, even if you are a minor (below 18 years of age) or major, you can open and maintain a bank account. If you are minor, you would require a guardian, preferably either of your parents, major brother or sister to open and maintain the bank account on your behalf. If you are above 18 years of age, you are free to open and maintain a bank account under your own signatures and identity.

For a bank account, preferably a savings bank account to begin with, make a beginning with a bank which is reasonably tech savvy offering state of the art facilities such as free Internet and Core Banking, free ATM/Debit Card services, ask for the least of minimum maintainable balance in your account, facilities for students such as concessional easy student loans in times of your need, a bank which is customer friendly at branch & online…..etc. A few such banks could be Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Karnataka Bank…….. Choose a branch which is close to your place (home) and remember having a bank account if you wish to have one, in any of the banks operating in India for retail banking, is your Right and on completing respective bank’s “publicly announced requirements” for opening and maintaining a bank account – no bank can refuse you to have an account with them irrespective of your age!

Stay a disciplined and responsible bank account holder and you can reap plenty of financial benefits from it throughout for rest of your life.
