  1. rent from a rental house is personal income, but you can also write off the amount of money that you invest into that house in repairs and such. I dont knwo where you are asking from so I cant give you exact information but contact the tax board to see what forms you should file to write off the money you spend on rental property upkeep

  2. yes certainly you have to pay the tax on rental income from house.

you can deduct the maintenance charges, property tax, water & sewerage tax and other statutory dues in respect of building from the total rent received.

  3. First of all….Congrats dude, u r earning a handsome income from ur property.

Ur query relates to House rental income which falls under the category “Income from other sources”.

As per the IT rules, income from House Rent is fully taxable. But, u can claim 30% of deduction towards maintenance and repairs, irrespective of whether u really incur or not.

    Hope this clarifies ur query.

  4. Your Q has been correctly answered in Taxes by HMT.
    Ignore the answer by veers.
Only taxes paid to municipality are deductible from rental income along with a 30% standard deduction.
Also rental income falls under the head “Income from House Property” & is added to total income from other heads.
